We have inspected the quarters of the Super-

intendent of Victoria Gaol and can find no defect.

Undoubtedly the premises are very much shut in being surrounded by Chinese and Portuguese houses and for this reason we do not consider that they are suitable for an Luropean in the position of the Superintendent of

Victoria Gaol.
